Choosing the Right Formation for Your Squad
Tactics & Strategy
Choosing Your Formation
Your formation determines how your players are distributed across the pitch zones and which positions are available.
Available Formations
- 4-4-2 - Balanced across all zones. A safe default.
- 4-3-3 - Strong attack with three forwards. Good for dominating possession.
- 4-2-3-1 - Midfield-heavy with a number 10. Great for creative teams.
- 3-5-2 - Midfield dominance with wing-backs. Requires quality centre-backs.
- 5-3-2 - Defensive solidity with three centre-backs. Good for underdog matches.
- 4-1-4-1 - Defensive midfield shield. Excellent for counter-attack strategies.
- 3-4-3 - Attacking and expansive. High risk, high reward.
- 5-4-1 - Ultra-defensive. Best for protecting a lead or frustrating strong opponents.
Zone Weight Multipliers
Each formation applies different multipliers to Defence, Midfield, and Attack zones. For example:
- 3-5-2 boosts Midfield but weakens Defence slightly
- 5-3-2 boosts Defence but reduces Attack power
- 4-3-3 balances well but favours Attack
Matching Formation to Squad
- Look at where your strongest players are positioned
- If your best players are centre-backs and strikers, try 3-5-2
- If you have great wingers, use 4-3-3 or 3-4-3
- Check position penalties - don't force players out of position
Changing Formation
You can change your formation at any time before the lineup deadline, and again during the half-time window.
