Setting Up Man Marking Effectively
Tactics & Strategy
Man Marking
Man marking lets you assign one of your players to shadow an opponent's key player, reducing their effectiveness.
How It Works
- Your marker sacrifices 20% of their own PS
- The target loses up to 30% of their PS
- The reduction scales based on your marker's defensive stats vs the target's attacking stats
- A strong defensive midfielder marking a weaker attacker will have maximum effect
Choosing Your Marker
- Pick a player with high defensive stats (tackling, interceptions, positioning)
- The marker should be in a position that covers the target's zone
- Don't sacrifice your best attacker to man-mark - use a defensive player
Choosing the Target
- Look at the scout report for the opponent's highest-rated player
- Target players who are significantly better than their teammates
- Attackers and creative midfielders are the best targets
- Marking a player who's already average isn't worth the sacrifice
When to Use Man Marking
- Against teams with one standout player
- When the opponent relies heavily on a single creative source
- In big matches where neutralising a threat could decide the result
- Not recommended when the opponent has evenly distributed quality
