Squad Depth and Rotation
Squad Management
Squad Depth and Rotation
Having quality throughout your squad is essential for sustained success.
Why Depth Matters
- Players may not play in real life, triggering auto-substitutions
- Injuries and suspensions in real life affect your WLM squad
- Half-time substitutions require quality options on the bench
- Fixture congestion (league + European) demands squad rotation
Building Depth
- Aim for at least two players per position
- Prioritise positions where your starter has unreliable real-world game time
- Free agents can be excellent low-cost depth options
- Consider versatile players who cover multiple positions naturally
Auto-Substitution
When a starting player isn't available (real-world absence), the system auto-subs from your bench:
- It looks for a player in the same position type
- The best available match is selected
- If no valid substitute exists, the absent player gets a heavy penalty
Bench Selection Tips
- Always include at least one defender, midfielder, and attacker on the bench
- Put your best bench players in positions most likely to be needed
- Check upcoming real-world fixtures to anticipate which starters might be absent
